License Renewal Requirements
How many hours of continuing education am I required to complete?
Georgia Cosmetology and Barbers board licensees are required to complete five (5) hours of continuing education courses to renew any of the following license types:
- Master Cosmetologist
- Hair Designer
- Esthetician
- Nail Technician
- Master Barber
- Barber II
Can I complete all of my continuing education hours online?
Yes. All 5 hours can be completed online.
Does the Georgia State Board of Cosmetology and Barbers approve continuing education courses?
Yes. Your continuing education provider must be registered with the Georgia State Board of Cosmetology and Barbers.

How many hours of continuing education do I need to renew my master cosmetologist, esthetician, nail technician, or master barber license?
Five hours.
Are there specific continuing education courses that are required to renew my license?
Yes. Three of the five required hours must be satisfied by a course in health and safety that has been developed or approved by the Board.
The other two hours must be a course that is registered with the Board.

Do I have to sit at my computer for the entire 5 hours?
No. The courses we offer for Georgia licensees are self-paced. You can take unlimited breaks or complete the course in one sitting. It is up to you.
Is there a course exam for this package?
No. Only a course survey is required after completion of the course materials. Once the survey is complete, you will have access to your course completion certificate.

What is the current fee to renew my Georgia Board of Cosmetology and Barbers license?

The fee to renew a Master Cosmetologist, Master Barber, or Hair Designer license is $50.
The fee to renew an Estheticians or Nail Technician license is $45.
When is my renewal deadline or expiration date? How can I find this information?
There are a few different renewal deadlines in Georgia.
Master Cosmetologist: – March 31, Even Years
Esthetician or Nail Technician – August 31, Odd Years
Hair Designer – September 30, Even Years
Master Barber or Barber II – December 31, Even Years

Are there any waivers or exemptions available for continuing education?
Yes, there are a few of them.
If this is your first license renewal, you are not be required to meet continuing education requirements.
If you have held a Georgia license for at least 25 years, or are over 65 years old, you are eligible for a waiver of the continuing education requirement. Here is the waiver form.
Hardship waivers are also available.
I am ready to complete my course, but I do not know my Georgia license number. Where can I look up my number?
You can either check your actual license, or you can look up your license number on the online license verification here.
What happens if my license has expired?
There has been a change for expired licenses since the last renewal cycle you need to know about.
The late renewal period has changed from six months, or 180 days, to 30 days. What does that mean?
If your license expired less than 30 days ago, you need to complete the necessary continuing education and pay your late renewal fees.
If it has been expired for more than 30 days, you may need to apply for license reinstatement.
How do I renew my Georgia instructor license?
Instructors need to complete 15 hours of approved continuing education to renew an instructor license.
At this time we do not offer continuing education courses for instructor license renewals.
Do cosmetology salon/ shops licenses need continuing education to renew?
No. Georgia salon licenses do not require continuing education at this time. Salon licenses expire in June of odd-numbered years.

Do you report my completed credits or send my certificates to the Georgia Board of Cosmetology and Barbers?
No. Unlike a few other states, Georgia does not require continuing education providers to report completed credits. Keep a copy of your course completion certificate to provide to the state if you are audited at the time of your renewal.
