You may have recently received an email reminder from the Georgia board about your upcoming renewal deadline. This is because every Georgia nail license and esthetician in Georgia expires on August 31st of odd years. That means August 31st, 2023 is the next renewal deadline for nail techs and estheticians in Georgia.
If you are unsure about the latest requirements and steps to renew your license, let us guide you through the steps without any stress or delays. We know your time is valuable and your next appointment is bound to show up any second!
Step 1: Complete your continuing education hours
Before renewing your license, you must complete the required continuing education (CE) hours.
For nail techs and estheticians, the board requires 5 hours of approved CEs. For instructor licenses, the requirement is 15 hours.
There are plenty of CE providers out there, but not all are approved by the board. Make sure to choose a provider that is currently approved by the Georgia State Board of Cosmetology and Barbers. Even providers need to renew every two years.
Cosmo Credits is a boatd-approved continuing education provider that offers a 5-hour CE course specifically designed for cosmetology and barber board licenses: including nail techs and estheticians. The course can be completed online, any time.
You can find your board-approved continuing course here:

5 Hour Georgia Esthetician Continuing Education
Our online board-approved course covers the required 3 hour sanitation and safety hours as well as a 2 hour business course that will help you boost your current business, whether you rent, own, or plan to open your own business.
The course is convenient and you can complete it entirely at your own pace. You will get a certificate after completing the course (that has no exam) for your records.

Step 2: Pay your renewal fees
Once you’ve completed your CEs, you can go to the board website and pay your renewal fees online. You can pay with a credit or debit card. The renewal fee is currently $45 for estheticians and nail techs. Make sure to renew your license before the deadline to avoid late fees or penalty.
What happens if I fail to renew my license on time?
If you fail to renew your license before the deadline, it will be placed in lapsed-late renewal status for thirty days. Any continued practice with an expired license is considered a violation of the law and could incur a fine, disciplinary action or criminal prosecution. If your license is not renewed within 30 days, it will become lapsed and require an application for reinstatement. So, do not take this renewal deadline lightly.
When can I renew my license?
Once the renewal period has been opened by the Professional Licensing Boards Division (which usually happens 90-120 days before the renewal deadline), you may complete your renewal process online with a credit card.

Click on the License Renewal icon and follow the instructions.
Once the board processes your renewal fee and online form, you should get an email with instructions on whether you can print your license, or expect a copy in the mail. Many boards have moved to printing renewed licenses.
