Course Description and Topics
This course covers everything the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) requires for your renewal. All 4 continuing education units (CEUs) are included in a single course — no need to purchase separate modules or track multiple completions.
The course includes:

- 1 Hour: Human Trafficking Prevention.
- 2 Hours: Laws, Rules, and Business Practices.
The 2-hour elective block covers topics approved under Section 83.202 of the TDLR rules, including the Texas Barbering and Cosmetology law and rules, mental health awareness, and other approved subjects.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to pass a test to complete my Texas barber continuing education?
No. The course includes periodic check-in questions to verify you are completing the material, but there is no final exam and no passing score. You cannot fail.
How many CE hours do I need to renew my barber license in Texas?
Most barbers need 4 hours of continuing education per 2-year renewal cycle. If you have held a Texas barber license for 15 or more years, you only need 2 hours. Only years licensed in Texas count toward that threshold.
Will you report my hours to the TDLR?
Yes. Cosmo Credits reports your completed CE hours to the TDLR by the next business day after you finish the course. You do not need to submit anything separately.
Does this course work on my phone?
Yes. The course is 100% online and works on any device with a web browser, including phones and tablets.
Can I start and stop the course?
Yes. Your progress is saved automatically. You can log out and pick up where you left off whenever you are ready.
What if I hold multiple Texas cosmetology or barber licenses?
You only need to complete CE once per renewal cycle, even if you hold more than one license type. One course completion covers all of your Texas cosmetology and barber licenses.
Do I need continuing education for my first license renewal?
Yes. Texas does not offer a first-renewal exemption. You must complete your CE hours before every renewal, including your first.
How long do I have to complete my continuing education?
Your CE must be completed before your license expiration date. Your renewal deadline is 2 years from your individual license issuance date. You can check your expiration date through the TDLR License Search.
