Course Summary
It is completely normal to have questions about your license renewal and continuing education requirements. It does not matter if you just graduated from cosmetology school, recently relocated to the Buckeye State, or you have been licensed since they started regulating cosmetology or barbering in Ohio – we want to help you understand and complete your requirements without any confusion or stress.
The Ohio State Cosmetology and Barber Board has some fairly specific requirements for renewing your license. And due to COVID, many hours were waived again for the upcoming 2022 renewal for barbers and 2023 renewal for cosmetologists, estheticians, manicurists, and others licensed under the Ohio Board.
We know it has been a while since you have had a “normal” continuing education cycle. And now you have to navigate the different requirements for this renewal, remember what CEBroker is, and recall which CE course is offered for free and only by the board.
We will get you on the right path for your renewal, help you complete your continuing education (even if it isn’t with us), and get your hours reported to CEBroker quickly. That way you can renew your Ohio license and get back to your clients.
First, let’s start off with some license renewal basics and FAQs.

Are there special renewal requirements or exemptions if this is my first renewal in Ohio?
Yes! There are a few. Check below to see if any of the situations pertains to your renewal.
Is this your first renewal?
If this is your first Ohio license renewal, you are not required to obtain continuing education hours for this renewal period. However, you still need to pay the renewal fee to keep your license active. The board website states that Instructor licenses do not apply to this exemption.
Are you sixty-five (65) or older?
Licensees who are age sixty-five (65) or older, before October 3, 2022 are not required to complete CE hours. Payment of renewal fee is required to keep a license current and active.
Have you been licensed in Ohio for over 30 years?
Licensees who have held a board license for thirty (30) or more years, before October 3, 2022 are not required to complete CE hours. Payment of renewal fee is required to keep a license current and active.
What happens if my license has expired, needs to be restored, or is escrow/ inactive)?
Getting your license back in good standing depends on how long it has been since you failed to renew.
If your license is in escrow, or inactive, check here for instructions on getting your license active again.
If your license needs to be restored or is lapsed:
A lapsed status means that you have failed to renew for two consecutive renewal periods (4 years). Here is some direction from the Board’s website:
To restore a lapsed license to an active status through the amnesty program, you will be required to pay all delinquent and current licensing fees. In addition, you must complete the required number of Continuing Education (CE) hours based upon the number of years in which your license has been lapsed.

restoration.
